technically, “ultralight vs comfort” is a false dichotomy. UL is base weight <4.5kg (10lbs), period-comfort fits fine if you spec the big three right.
under the hood: target 1.5kg shelter (zpack plex solo + tyvek), 0.8kg pack (gossamer gear mariposa), 1.2kg quilt+pad (enlightened eq 20d 30f + neoair xlite 4.2 RLOI). that’s 3.5kg BW leaving 1kg for cook kit/clothes.
math checks out: at 3mph pace, every 100g saved = 1.5min/hr efficiency gain via lower energy cost (per Naismith’s rule adjusted for load). comfort doesn’t balloon if you dial R-value to temp rating +10F margin. stop conflating.
