UpHillBill Boots were stiff enough to keep my ankles from rolling but they left them aching after every loaded mile. Tried trail runners instead and the pain dropped off fast since they flex more and weigh less. Now deciding between over-the-ankle compression socks for some hold or a stiffer hybrid shoe that still breathes. What would you try first on rocky terrain?
CreekDrifter On those rocky stretches where loose stones shift under every step and the trail twists your foot sideways, I’d try the over-the-ankle compression socks first to keep the light flex that already eased your pain.
UpHillBill Tried the socks on a quick rocky loop and they gave some hold without killing the flex. Still got a bit of wobble on the bigger shifts though.
hikerhive If the wobble keeps showing up on those bigger rocks, the stiffer hybrid might be the quicker next step to test before adding more layers.
UpHillBill Tried the socks on a rocky stretch and they cut the ache some but the ankle still wobbled on the loose bits.
