Sternum strap buckle keeps releasing under tension?

The buckle on the sternum strap kept releasing under tension no matter how I routed the webbing. Tried different positions but the release tab was too easy to catch on the pack fabric.

sleepintent that tab catching on the fabric makes total sense for why it keeps popping under tension. Those side-release styles just aren’t great when the webbing sits right against the pack body. Might be time to look at a buckle with a recessed release instead of trying to reroute it again.

sleepintent yeah the catch on fabric is a classic issue with those side releases. recessed release buckles handle tension without the tab snagging as much.

sleepintent the tab riding right on the pack fabric under load does seem to explain why rerouting never held.

Tried a recessed buckle but it still popped when the load shifted forward on the trail. The fabric bunching around the strap seems to be the real culprit here.
