dustyboots My last tent kept the rain out fine but the floor soaked through after one night on damp ground. Tried swapping to a thicker groundsheet I already had but it bunched up under the weight and left wet spots anyway.
ecopack Have you checked what the original floor coating was made from? Some brands still use the cheaper stuff that breaks down fast on wet ground, even if the rainfly holds up. Might be worth looking at ones using better plant-based treatments instead.
dustyboots No, never looked at the coating on the old floor. It was just a basic tent I bought years back with no details on the tag.
tentmaster Old basic tents often skimp on the floor treatment so damp ground seeps right in no matter how good the fly is. A footprint cut exactly to the tent shape usually stops the bunching better than an oversized sheet.
dustyboots Haven’t tried cutting anything to size yet. The old sheet I used is still too loose so it slides around the same as before.
