What kind of dog gear holds up best on rough trails?
My pup and I just got back from a weekend loop where his harness started chafing after a few miles of rocky climbs. We pushed on anyway and he stayed super excited the whole way, but I kept wishing I’d brought something with better padding or adjustability for those steep sections!

Rough climbs like that shift everything around and create rub points you don’t notice on flatter ground. Checking the chest strap position when the dog is actually leaning into the incline usually shows if wider padding or a different adjustment range would stop the chafing before it starts.

That incline check is the real key because the dog’s weight shifts forward and the whole harness twists just enough to create new pressure points on rocks. I’d test the fit by having them pull uphill on a short steep section right at the trailhead before committing to miles of it.
