Water filter worked well on muddy stream but cartridge fit differed

The water filter I packed worked without any issues on the last trip even with the muddy stream we had to use near the end of the day. I had been worried about the flow rate slowing down after a few liters but it stayed consistent the whole time we needed it. The only thing that threw me off was how the replacement cartridge fit compared to the old one.

overlandotto the consistent flow on muddy water is the real win there. cartridge fit throwing you off usually comes down to how the seal lip lines up, so i’d lay the old one next to the new one and check the groove depth before the next pack.

The groove comparison should catch most of the mismatch, but if the depths line up the real variable is often how much the old seal had compressed from use in that muddy water. A quick wipe around the new lip before seating it usually lets it slide in without fighting the housing.
